LIKE IT WAS MY, THIS IS MY FIRST INTERNSHIP WHERE I ACTUALLY DO HANDS ON WORK.

THE MOST CHALLENGING THING I WORKED ON, UH, WAS A SECONDARY PROJECT OF OURS THAT INVOLVED STORING, UH, TURRID CURTAINS THAT WERE USED DURING THE, UH, SLIP FILL PROJECT.
SO WHILE IT INITIALLY SEEMED REALLY SIMPLE, THERE WERE COMPLICATIONS WHEN IT CAME TO REMOVING THE TE CURTAINS FROM THE SLIP.
AND SO IT GAVE US A REALLY GOOD OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN HOW TO MANAGE COMPLICATIONS AND SETBACKS WHEN IT COMES TO PROJECT MANAGE.
UM, I GUESS THIS KIND OF THE SAME THING AS THE LAST ONE, BUT THAT WHOLE FULFILL PROJECT BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE THERE'S A LOT OF STEPS THAT YOU DON'T REALLY THINK ABOUT THAT REALLY GO INTO A PROJECT OF THAT SIZE.
I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT THE MOST CHALLENGING THING I WORKED ON WHILE AT COURT

AGAIN, TO EARN THIS DISTINCTION, THE PORT OF GALVESTON PD INITIALLY DEDICATED MORE THAN A YEAR TO AUDITING AND REVISING THEIR POLICIES, PROCEDURES, AND PRACTICES.
SINCE THEN, THEY HAVE SUBMITTED ANNUAL COMPLIANCE REPORTS AND MAINTAINED ONGOING ADHERENCE TO THESE 173 STANDARDS.
AGAIN, EVERY FOUR YEARS, THE DEPARTMENT UNDERGOES A RIGOROUS ONSITE ASSESSMENT CONDUCTED BY TRAINED LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSESSORS FROM ACROSS THE STATE.
THERE'S NO BROTHER-IN-LAW DEAL IN THIS.
THEY, UH, THEY REALLY DO LOVE THESE ASSESSORS INSPECT FACILITIES.
THEY REVIEW PROCEDURES, THEY DO RIGHT ALONG WITH OFFICERS, AND THEY CONDUCT STAFF INTERVIEW INTERVIEWS TO VERIFY COMPLIANCE WITH THE RIGOROUS STANDARDS.
THE ASSESSMENT FINDINGS ARE THEN REVIEWED BY THE TPCA ACCREDITATION COMMITTEE, A PANEL OF NINE POLICE CHIEFS AND SHERIFFS FROM ACROSS THE STATE OF TEXAS.
FOLLOWING THEIR REVIEW, THE COMMITTEE VOTES, AND IF IT'S UNANIMOUS, THEN THE AGENCY IS RE-ACCREDITED.
THAT IS THE CASE WITH THE PORT OF GALVESTON POLICE DEPARTMENT.
TO PUT THIS ACHIEVEMENT INTO PERSPECTIVE OF THE APPROXIMATELY 2,800 LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES IN THE STATE OF TEXAS, ONLY ABOUT 221 HAVE SUCCESSFULLY ACHIEVED AND MAINTAINED ACCREDITATION.
THESE AGENCIES RANGE FROM DEPARTMENTS OF FOUR TO FIVE OFFICERS ALL THE WAY TO MAJOR METROPOLITAN AGENCIES THAT ARE OVER 1900 OFFICERS.
SO REGARDLESS OF SIZE, PROFESSIONALISM IS ESSENTIAL.
OUR COMMUNITIES EXPECT IT AND THEY DESERVE IT.
SO THIS MORNING I PROUDLY HAVE THE ABILITY TO REPRESENT THE TEXAS POLICE CHIEFS ASSOCIATION AND RECOGNIZE CHIEF KENNETH BROWN AND THE PORT OF GALVESTON POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR THEIR EXEMPLARY PERFORMANCE AND CONTINUED COMMITMENT TO PROFESSIONAL POLICING.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE PORT OF GALVESTON? IT MEANS THAT YOUR DEPARTMENT IS NOT ONLY MEETING, BUT EXCEEDING THE CURRENT BEST PRACTICES FOR TEXAS LAW ENFORCEMENT.
IT ASSURES THIS COMMUNITY, THE WAR, EVERYBODY THAT COMES TO YOUR PORT.
